The Ashampoo DiscForge Shortcut SDK is intended for rapid and easy integration into a wide variety of applications. Here are some of its key features:

User interface

  • DiscForge Shortcut provides a complete graphical user interface. All the necessary user interaction and option specification is taken care of.
  • The component comes with translations for many languages. Currently English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, Turkish, Czech, Slovenian and Bulgarian are supported.
  • The user interface can be customized to suit the application's specific needs. Unnecessary parts can be removed easily.

Easy integration

  • The integration of DiscForge Shortcut into applications can often be done with only a handful (5-10) of function calls!
  • The API is implemented as a DLL. An import library is provided.
  • It consists only of C functions and is thus compatible with most major programming languages.
  • It does not need anything to be installed in the operating system directories which eliminates the possibility for bad interactions with other applications. All files can be put in the local application directory.
  • Both UNICODE and code-paged (ANSI) strings are supported.

Comprehensive set of recording functions

  • Supported media types: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVR+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM
  • DiscForge Shortcut supports the creation of audio CDs, MP3 CDs/DVDs and multi-session or single-session data CDs/DVDs.
  • DiscForge Shortcut can also create copies of existing CDs/DVDs.
  • The volume of audio tracks can be normalized during the recording process. If this feature is enabled then all tracks will automatically have the same volume!
  • Track-at-once, disc-at-once and session-at-once write modes are all available.
  • Created data CDs/DVDs can be verified after the recording process to make sure that they are ok.
  • MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG Vorbis and FLAC files can be used as input when writing audio CDs.
  • Custom plugins can be provided to create audio CDs from other audio sources.

High compatibility

  • Thousands of CD and DVD recorders are currently supported.
  • Shortcut uses a generic driver concept, so new drives will usually also work out-of-the-box.
  • We continually add explicit support for those new drives for which generic drivers cannot work.
  • The recording engine has been developed and updated for almost a decade, so it not only supports current state-of-the-art drives, but also lots of older models.
  • Operating systems: Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP.
